How to Prevent Heat Stroke This Summer (And What to Eat to Stay Safe)

Summer in Pakistan is no joke. When temperatures cross 42°C in cities like Multan, Lahore, and Kasur, stepping outside feels like walking into an oven. And while most of us worry about sunburn or sweating too much, there's a far more serious risk we often ignore, Heat stroke.

Every summer, hundreds of people in Pakistan are hospitalized because of heat stroke. Some don't make it. The scary part? Most of these cases were preventable.

This article will tell you exactly what heat stroke is, how to spot it early, and most importantly what you can do right now to protect yourself and your family.

What Is Heat Stroke?

Heat stroke happens when your body temperature shoots above 40°C and your body can no longer cool itself down. It's not just "feeling hot" and it's a medical emergency.

There are two kinds:

Exertional heat stroke hits people who are physically active outdoors like farmers, construction workers, athletes, delivery riders. You push your body too hard in the heat, and it gives out.

Classic heat stroke is more common in elderly people and young children. It happens after spending too long in extreme heat even without heavy activity.

Both are serious. Both can be deadly if ignored.

Signs of Heat Stroke You Should Never Ignore

The tricky thing about heat stroke is that the person suffering from it often doesn't realize what's happening. That's why everyone around them needs to know the warning signs.

Watch out for:

  • Body temperature above 40°C

  • Skin that feels hot and dry and no sweating at all (this is the biggest red flag)

  • Fast, strong heartbeat

  • Confusion, strange behaviour, or difficulty speaking

  • Severe headache

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • In serious cases sometime fainting or loss of consciousness

If you see these signs, don't wait. Move the person to a cool, shaded area, pour cold water on their skin, and get medical help immediately.

How to Prevent Heat Stroke: Simple Steps That Actually Work

Drink More Water Than You Think You Need

Most people drink water only when they're thirsty. By that point, you're already dehydrated. In summer, you need to keep sipping water throughout the day even when you don't feel like it.

Plain water is good. But your body also loses salts and minerals through sweat. So plain water alone isn't always enough.

What works: Mix one tablespoon of Khalis Valley Pure Sidr Honey in a glass of cold water with a squeeze of lemon. Sidr honey is naturally rich in glucose, fructose, and trace minerals. It gives your body a quick energy boost and helps replace what you lose through sweating without any artificial ingredients or preservatives. It's basically a natural sports drink, but better.

Our Sidr honey is sourced directly from the Sidr forests of Chakwal and Karak, and it is pure, raw, and unprocessed. No additives. No shortcuts.

Stay Indoors Between 11 AM and 3 PM

This is when the sun is at its strongest. If you have no choice but to go outside, cover your head, wear light coloured loose clothing, and take breaks in the shade. For outdoor workers, this isn't just advice, it could be the difference between going home fine and ending up in a hospital.

Eat Light but Don't Skip Meals

Skipping meals in summer is a mistake many people make. An empty stomach plus extreme heat equals dizziness, weakness, and a higher chance of heat exhaustion turning into something worse.

At the same time, heavy oily food makes your body work harder to digest, which raises your internal temperature. The goal is light, nourishing food that gives real energy.

A great summer snack: Khalis Valley Nuts Honey is pure honey mixed with natural nuts. It's small, its filling, and it gives you steady energy without the sugar crash you'd get from processed snacks or sweet drinks. A few spoonfuls in the morning can keep you going through the hottest part of the day.

Don't Underestimate Pure Desi Ghee

This might surprise you, but desi ghee has been used in traditional Pakistani and Unani medicine for centuries as a food that supports gut health and keeps the body strong during stress. When your digestive system is working well, your whole-body handles heat better.

The key is quality. Most ghee available in the market is adulterated or made from low-quality fat. Khalis Valley Pure Desi Ghee is made by the traditional way — 100% natural, no artificial processing, no mixing. Add a small amount to your morning meal and your body will thank you for it.

Keep Your Most Vulnerable Family Members Safe

Children and elderly people are the most at risk during a heatwave. Their bodies either can't regulate temperature as efficiently (elderly) or they don't recognize the signs of overheating until it's too late (children).

Simple rules: never leave them in a parked car, make sure they drink fluids regularly, keep them in cool or shaded spaces during the hottest hours, and check on them often. A daily habit as simple as a spoonful of pure honey in water can help maintain their energy and immunity during the summer months.

Know the Difference: Heat Exhaustion vs. Heat Stroke

Heat exhaustion comes first and it's your body's warning signal. You'll feel weak, dizzy, and sweaty. Your skin may look pale and feel clammy. If this happens, stop what you're doing, find a cool place, and drink fluids right away.

If heat exhaustion is ignored, it can turn into heat stroke which is much more serious. The sweating stops, the skin turns hot and dry, and confusion sets in. At that point, you need medical help immediately.

What You Eat Matters More Than You Think

Most people focus only on what they wear or when they go outside to avoid heat stroke. But what you put in your body matters just as much.

Processed food, artificial drinks, and refined sugar create inflammation and strain your system. Natural foods like raw honey, pure ghee, nut blends work with your body. They replenish energy, support immunity, and keep your digestive system strong, which is your first line of defense against heat stress.

This is the idea behind everything at Khalis Valley. Every product we make is pure, organic, and sourced from the natural valleys of Pakistan. No chemicals, no artificial flavours, no fillers. Just food the way it was always meant to be.
